ECI bans exit polls ahead of bypolls in states

Aizawl: In accordance with Section 126A of the Representation of People Act, 1951, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has prohibited collection and publication of exit poll in the media for the assembly election in Bihar and for by-elections in eight states, including Dampa assembly constituency in Mizoram’s Mamit district, before expiry of 48 hours on conclusion of polling.The ECI, in accordance with the provision of Section 126 (1) (b) of Representation of People Act, 1951, said publication or broadcast/telecast of results of exit or opinion polls through print and electronic media, will be strictly prohibited before conclusion of the aforementioned period.
