The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday raided properties linked to Tamil Nadu Minister and DMK leader I Periyasamy and his MLA son, IP Senthil Kumar, in Chennai and Dindigul under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), as part of an ongoing money laundering probe.

According to the prosecution, Periyasamy amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Assets in his name, and those of his wife and sons, valued at Rs 2.1 crore, were allegedly acquired during his tenure as a minister from 2006 to 2010.

The investigation by the federal agency follows a directive from the Madras High Court in April where the bench ordered a special court in Dindigul to frame charges against Periyasamy and his family members in connection with the "disproportionate" assets case.

The High Court's directive came after criminal revision petitions were filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), challenging a previous court order that discharged Periyasamy and his family from the case.

Properties belonging to Periyasamy's son, IP Sentilkumar, who serves as an MLA, were also subject to the ED's search operations. Periyasamy represents the Athoor assembly constituency in Dindigul district.

Currently, there has been no official response from Periyasamy or the DMK regarding the actions undertaken by the ED. The minister's political career and his family's involvement in this financial scrutiny remain under close watch.
