Farmers' Revolt: Highway Blocked, Talks With Govt At A Standstill
This special report focuses on a massive farmers' protest in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region, led by former MLA Bachu Kadu, which resulted in the blockade of the Nagpur-Hyderabad highway (NH 44). A key demand is for an unconditional loan waiver, with a farm leader stating they will 'continue to protest and they will not back out until the demand of unconditional farm loan waiver is met with them.' The agitation began with a tractor march from Amravati and caused a 25-kilometre traffic jam. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's government has appealed for talks, sending Senior Minister Chandra Shekhar Bawankule to negotiate. However, the farmers remain firm, threatening to march to Mumbai and block railway lines, creating a tense standoff with the administration over loan waivers and crop loss compensation.
