Power infrastructure is being augmented to meet the burgeoning demand for power as it is estimated that the peak demand will touch 24,215 MW by 2030 in Telangana, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

He was speaking at the Telangana Formation Day main ceremony after hoisting the national flag at the Police Parade Grounds in Khammam on Monday (June 2).

“I pay rich tributes to all the martyrs who laid down their lives in the struggle for a separate Telangana State,” he said, outlining various welfare and development initiatives of the State government for comprehensive development of Telangana with a thrust on job creation and inclusive growth.

He added that the Telangana Rising-2047 designed under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy will transform the very fabric of the State.

He noted that the State has recorded all-time high electricity demand in 2024 when the peak electricity demand reached 16,877 MW and the annual maximum reached 17,162 MW.

Attributing this to the continuous development efforts by the government, he said a five-year power action plan has been formulated to meet this growing demand. As part of the action plan, new electricity substations are being set up and transmission network is being strengthened with a futuristic perspective.

He said green energy plants with a cumulative capacity of 20,000 MW will be established by 2030 as part of the Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy.

In pursuit of ambitious renewable energy goals, plans are afoot to set up a 1,000 MW solar power plant through self-help groups as part of Indira Mahila Shakti Programme. In the first phase, a pilot project of 64 MW (2MW solar power plants in each district) will soon be operational, he said.

On the district-specific development initiatives, Mr. Vikramarka said a plan is in the offing to develop a ropeway at Khammam Fort and other tourist facilities with an outlay of ₹29 crore. Additionally, ₹2.5 crore has been sanctioned for the development and accommodation facilities at the historic Buddhist Mahastupa in Nelakondapalli, he announced.

Earlier, Mr. Vikramarka along with Khammam Collector Muzammil Khan and Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt paid floral tributes to the Telangana martyrs memorial in Khammam city.
