Efforts under way to provide basic facilities on city outskirts in a phased manner, says G.T. Deve Gowda

G.T. Deve Gowda, MLA for Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency, has assured the residents of areas under the urban local bodies’ limits, on the city outskirts, of basic facilities in a phased manner.

At a meeting organised by Hootagalli City Municipal Council to discuss issues such as waste management, drinking water, stray dog menace, underground drainage (UGD) maintenance and upkeep of street lights, Mr. Gowda said sincere efforts will be made to gradually provide the basic infrastructure facilities to the residents of these localities as part of the overall development of Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency.

While advising the officials of the urban local bodies to respond to the problems of the people, Mr. Gowda pointed out that Chamundeshwari constituency was among the largest in the State, comprising four Town Panchayats, one City Municipal Council (CMC), five wards of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and 18 gram panchayats.

Merger

Recalling his efforts to merge the areas and layouts along the Outer Ring Road in Mysuru, including Vijaynagar 3^rd and 4^th stages into MCC, Mr. Gowda said a proposal in this regard put forward before the government was opposed by the members of the MCC, who resolved that they would allow the merger only if the government granted ₹5,000 crore.

It was only later that four Town Panchayats and one CMC were created to facilitate the maintenance of these areas on the outskirts of Mysuru by collecting taxes.

However, he noted that private layouts in these areas had been developed without providing proper roads, water or drainage facilities. While the developers sold the plots and left, the buyers, who built homes on the sites, struggled without proper infrastructure.

The formation of the Town Panchayats and CMC is expected to manage these areas systematically and provide them with the required basic facilities.

The urban local bodies were also providing khatas to the sites in these private layouts, which had been transferred by Mysuru Urban Development Authority, he said.

He estimated that more than one lakh sites had been transferred to these urban local bodies, which had also begun collecting revenue.

With work under way on the Kabini Phase 2 and Hale Unduwadi drinking water projects, Mr. Gowda hoped that adequate drinking water will be available to the city residents in the coming days.

Roads and drainage facilities will also be provided with government grants, Mr. Gowda assured.

He took serious exception to the dumping of garbage and poultry waste along the Outer Ring Road and said cases will be filed against violators. The authorities will penalise violators who dump waste along the Outer Ring Road and confiscate their vehicles, he warned.
