Eight injured as two cars collide head-on in Koyilandy

Kochi: Two cars collided head-on with each other in Koyilandy, injuring at least eight persons on Saturday morning.The accident occurred around 10.30am when the vehicles were heading in the opposite direction through a service road near an overbridge in Chengottukavu, Kozhikode.

In the impact of the collision, both vehicles turned turtle, causing severe damage to the vehicles, so much so that fire force and residents had to struggle to rescue the victims.Those in the vehicles were initially rushed to Koyilandy Taluq Hospital, but they had to be rushed to Govt Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, due to the severity of injuries. At least one among the injured was serious, said sources.Koyilandy police said they have only received information that those involved were rushed to MCH. An FIR will be registered once they receive a statement relating to the collision, said an officer. Reportedly, passengers in one car hailed from Perumbavoor, while the others are from Koyilandy.Police said an investigation will be done as to how such a high-speed collision occurred on the service road.
