Eight persons were injured in a fire accident in Badami in Bagalkot district of Karnataka on August 28 night. All were admitted to a hospital and are said to be out of danger.
Police said the fire broke out after two cylinders exploded in a cycle shop. The shop owner, employees, and two Home Guards on duty nearby, sustained burn injuries.
The shop-owners were found to be storing domestic LPG cylinders without a licence, or permission, police said.
Based on a complaint filed by Bharamappa Peerappa Maradi (59 years), Assistant Fire Station Officer, Fire Station, Badami, a case was registered in Badami Police Station.
During inspection, officials was found that the accused — Wasim Abdul Razak Jamadar and Salim Abdul Razak Jamadar, residents of Tippu Nagar in Badami — had illegally stocked two 14-kg LPG cylinders and 20 5-kg LPG cylinders in their cycle shop. Despite being aware of the danger, the accused had stored the cylinders negligently, leading to the explosion and fire accident. The shop, along with several cycles and other materials, was completely gutted in the fire.
Immediately after the incident, Superintendent of Police, Deputy SP of Bagalkot, and Circle Police Inspector and PSIs, and others visited the spot.
The case is under investigation.
