Eight people were killed after a truck collided with a car on the Deva-Fatehpur road in Barabanki district on Tuesday, officials said.
The incident occurred when a speeding truck collided head-on with an Ertiga vehicle that reportedly did not have a licence plate. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving the car completely crushed and causing panic among bystanders.
Among the deceased identified are driver Shrikant Shukla, Pradeep Soni, his wife Madhuri Soni, and their son Nitin, all residents of Fatehpur town. The identities of the other victims are yet to be confirmed.
According to officials, all occupants of the Ertiga were returning home after taking a holy dip in the Ganges at Bithoor in Kanpur.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and directed district officials to expedite relief measures.
“The loss of life in the unfortunate accident is extremely sad and heart-wrenching. My condolences are with the bereaved families. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant salvation to the departed souls, strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense loss, and speedy recovery to the injured. Om peace,” an official statement quoted the Chief Minister as saying.
