Eight-month-old child falls into bucket of water, drowns in Avadi

An eight-month-old child fell into a bucket filled with water and drowned, in Avadi on Thursday (September 4, 2025).

A senior official from the Avadi Police said the child’s parents, Krishna and Shanta Mary, reside in Avadi’s Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. Besides the eight-month-old Anushree, the couple has another daughter, aged three, named Jayashree.

On Thursday, Krishna had gone to work, and Mary had taken Jayashree to a shop, leaving Anushree with her grandmother Sorna.

When Sorna had gone to the kitchen to fetch her some food, the child accidentally fell into a bucket of water in the bathroom. Sorna, unable to find the child, ran out and alerted the neighbours. One of the neighbours came to the bathroom and found the child dead in the bathroom.

The neighbours alerted the Tank Factory police, who sent the child’s body to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
