Eight scientific institutions in capital sign MoU for collaborative research

Eight premier national institutions in Thiruvananthapuram have agreed to a formal collaboration to foster mutual cooperation through collaborative research programmes and exchange of faculty and students

The scientific institutions that have agreed to partner in this collaboration include, the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST), Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI), CSIR – National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) and the Centre for Development of Advancing Computing (C-DAC).

The initiative is designed to strengthen interdisciplinary research, enhance academic & research partnerships and tp promote innovation across scientific domains.

A formal announcement regarding the collaboration and the MoU being entered into by the partnering institutions was made here on Wednesday at an event at the Bio Medical technology wing of SCTIMST.

Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, Kris Gopalakrishnan, president, SCTIMST and Sunil Kumar, Head, Autonomous Institutions Division, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India joined the event virtually.

The heads of all partnering scientific institutions, E. Magesh, Director General, C-DAC; Chandrabhas Narayana, Director, RGCB; J. N. Moorthy, Director, IISER; N. V. Chalapathi Rao, Director, NCESS; G. Byju, Director, CTCRI; C. Anandharamakrishnan, Director, CSIR-NIIST; Dipankar Banerjee, Director, IIST; Sanjay Behari, Director, SCTIMST and Harikrishna Varma P. R, Head, Biomedical Technology Wing, SCTIMST were present on the occasion, reaffirming a shared vision for collaborative research and academic excellence.

This formal collaboration marks a significant milestone in building a robust scientific ecosystem, encouraging knowledge sharing and contributing to the nation’s goals in research and development, a press note issued here said.
