Three members of a family were found hanging inside their apartment in Kolkata's Kasba area on Saturday evening. They have been identified as Sarajit Bhattacharya, aged 70, his wife Gargi Bhattacharya, aged around 68, and their specially abled son Ayusman Bhattacharya, aged approximately 38.

Police sources said, on entering the house, three bodies were found hanging. The incident seems to be suicide, as per the sources. The incident happened on Rajdanga Main Road.

According to police, officers rushed to the residence after neighbours grew suspicious when no one from the family was seen since morning and attempts to contact them failed.

The house was locked from the inside, prompting police to break open the collapsible gate and wooden door in the presence of locals.

All three bodies were brought down after cutting the ligature and sent for postmortem examination, which will determine the exact cause of death. Police said the preliminary findings point to suicide, but a final conclusion will only be drawn after the autopsy report is received.

Officials confirmed that the entire process of body recovery was videographed. A case of unnatural death has been registered at Kasba police station and a probe is currently underway.
