Elderly man sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor

The Third Additional District Judge’s Court in Kadapa, which is also the POCSO Court, sentenced a person to life imprisonment and a fine of ₹2,500 for sexually assaulting a minor.

The case pertains to October 2018, when the accused Shaik Sunnambatti Jalaluddin (62) had sexually assaulted a sixteen-year-old girl and even impregnated her. After giving birth to a baby girl, the minor lodged a complaint with the Proddatur police station, based on which a case was registered under the relevant sections.

The police filed the charge sheet and arrested the accused, who was promptly produced in the court. When the case came up for hearing on Tuesday, the judge S. Praveen Kumar pronounced the verdict.

Superintendent of Police Nachiket Vishwanath Shelke lauded the Proddatur police and the prosecution team.
