Patna: A 78-year-old retired teacher was found brutally murdered, with her throat slit, at her residence under Shastri Nagar police station area of Patna on Saturday morning.The victim was identified as Madhavi Devi, wife of late Amrendra Kumar Das, a former officer in the Accountant General’s office, who retired in 2008 and passed away in 2023.Upon receiving the information, SDPO-II of Secretariat Saket Kumar, along with his team, rushed to the spot and started an investigation. The police recovered the body and sent it for the postmortem.The SDPO-II said a forensic team collected evidence from the crime spot. “The police immediately arrived at house number C-71 in AG Colony after receiving information that a crime incident took place at the place. The woman lived alone in the house.
When the police arrived, her body lay on the floor of her room and her throat was slit,” he said, while ruling out that burglary had taken place as nothing was stolen from the house.The criminals reportedly broke into the house and slit the elderly woman’s throat with a knife. Multiple stab wounds were found on her body during the initial examination.At the house of Madhavi, her daughter ran a dance class. She was not present in the house at the time of the incident.
Her eldest son, Ujjwal Kumar, is a professor in Dehradun, while the second son, Utkal Kumar, works as an executive at a multinational bank in Delhi.A woman, who lives as a tenant in the house, was the first to spot the body. She immediately called her daughter to inform her about the incident.City SP (Central) in charge, Vaibhav Sharma, said the police were questioning the tenant and the family who lived in Madhavi’s house. “The tenants have the keys of the main gate. There was no other way that the accused entered the house except through the main gate. We also seized the CCTV footage from the cameras installed at the house and are checking it for further investigation. Some documents were also seized,” he told this reporter.Patna IG Jitendra Rana added, “The SIT has been formed and it inspected the spot. All points of investigation will be subject to technical scrutiny.”
