A woman has been arrested for the brutal murder of a 75-year-old woman whose decomposed body was recovered from a forest in Vikarabad district. The accused, identified as Parigi Anita, was produced before the Rajendranagar court and sent to Chanchalguda jail under a 14-day judicial remand.

Anita, a native of Parigi in Vikarabad, had migrated to Hyderabad and was residing in Khanapur village of Gandipet. On June 3, when the victim, R. Balamma went for a morning walk, the accused lured her and took her to a deserted part of the Kandlapalli forest under false pretences and murdered her in order to steal her gold and silver ornaments.

Following a complaint by the victim’s daughter-in-law, Rameshwaram Lakshmi, a missing case was booked by the Narsingi police. Police traced Anita on June 7, and during interrogation, she confessed to killing Balamma and fleeing with her gold chain, gold shells, silver rings, and silver bracelets. Based on her confession, police recovered the stolen jewellery and visited the crime scene in Kandlapalli forest, where the Chengomul police had already discovered an unidentified decomposed body on June 4. The body was exhumed, and Balamma’s family members later identified the remains.
