Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina share their thoughts before the Indian Wells 2026 final showdown

Speaking during her pre final press conference, Aryna Sabalenka said matches against Elena Rybakina are always intense from the very first moment. According to WTA press conference coverage, Sabalenka explained that the early shots in each rally are usually the most important part of their matches.

Aryna Sabalenka said, “I feel like against Elena, it’s always super aggressive, it’s all about the first few balls in every point. You know, if you dominate in those two points, I feel like most likely you’re gonna win the point. It’s very aggressive, very fast tennis. Yeah, if it’s her, I’m excited, actually.”Sabalenka also spoke about how she plans to approach the final. Instead of changing too many things, she wants to stay calm and focus on small details during each point. She said, “I think by focusing on your game plan, on small little things in each point, it’s help you to stay loose and also, like, ready to go. I think that’s the best way to approach these kind of matches.”Meanwhile, Elena Rybakina shared a slightly different view when she spoke before the final. The Kazakh star explained that matches can change depending on how players feel on that particular day.Elena Rybakina said, “As I always say, every day is different, every tournament is different, and you can play well one day and then the other day wake up and not feel the greatest.

So I feel like you need to always try to find a way.” Rybakina also believes the match could become physically demanding because of the court conditions at Indian Wells. She added, “We know each other’s game very well. It’s a lot about physical, I would say also, because here, the ball is heavy, the rallies a little bit longer than on the other hard courts, which are a little bit quicker. It’s gonna be difficult match where we both gonna try to serve well, that’s for sure, put pressure, and, I mean, we will see what’s gonna happen.”No matter the result of the final, Elena Rybakina will reach an important milestone. According to the WTA rankings update, she will move up to World No. 2 on Monday, passing Iga Swiatek, who was eliminated earlier in the tournament. If Rybakina wins the final, it would give her a second Indian Wells title and a third WTA 1000 trophy in her career.
