A 40-year-old elephant was found dead in the Theppakadu forest range in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve on Saturday and the Forest Department conducted a post mortem on the remains on Sunday. In a statement, the Department said the carcass was found during routine patrols on Saturday evening and a post mortem was carried out by forest veterinarians in the presence of department officials and members of a Non-Governmental Organisation. Based on preliminary findings, they believe that the animal died of natural causes.
