Mahesh Tenginakai, Hubballi-Dharwad MLA, has said that keeping in mind the interests of traders and business establishments, the height of the elevated road at Kittur Chennamma Circle had been increased by a metre and accordingly work was being executed.

He was speaking to presspersons after reviewing the progress of the construction work on the elevated circular road at Kittur Chennamma Circle and holding discussions with officials of the National Highway Authority of India, the Public Works Department, the North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation, and representatives of the construction company which is executing the project in Hubballi on Friday.

Mr. Tenginakai said that the work on the elevated road from Hosur Circle to Kittur Chennamma Circle and the 650 m elevated road from Vijayapura Road to K.C. Circle was going on at a brisk pace.

“The Vijayapura Road-K.C. Circle stretch has more commercial buildings and if the work was executed according to the earlier design, they would have disappeared behind the elevated road. So the design was changed to increase the height by a metre and accordingly work is under way,” he said.

To a query, Mr. Tenginakai said that after the vehicular movement was diverted via alternative routes from April 20, the work had picked up and 17 girders had been installed. Already the work on drinking water supply line and underground drainage system had been completed and the work on installing 63 girders had been initiated, he said, adding that heavy machinery and vehicles had been deployed to expedite the work.

He also said that the authorities had promised to complete the work before the deadline of August 19.

The MLA said that new BRTS bus station was being constructed in front of the renovated old bus station at K.C. Circle. After the completion of the first phase of the work, the work on Gadag Road would be initiated.

Meanwhile, the land acquisition process had been completed and the plan was to complete the overall project by December-end, he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Raveesh C.R. pointed out that public buses were being stopped indiscriminately to allow the passengers to board, which was causing traffic jams on the alternative routes. To address the problem a joint team of police and NWKRTC would be formed, he said. A host of officials accompanied the MLA during the inspection.
