Tesla CEO Elon Musk seems thrilled with President Donald Trump's NASA announcement. On Tuesday, November 5, Trump announced on his social media platform Truth Social that he is re-nominating Shift4 founder Jared Isaacman to lead the NASA.
"Sean Duffy has done an incredible job as Interim Administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
This evening, I am pleased to nominate Jared Isaacman, an accomplished business leader, philanthropist, pilot, and astronaut, as Administrator of NASA. Jared’s passion for Space, astronaut experience, and dedication to pushing the boundaries of exploration, unlocking the mysteries of the universe, and advancing the new Space economy, make him ideally suited to lead NASA into a bold new Era.
Congratulations to Jared, his wife Monica, and their children, Mila and Liv. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT," wrote Trump. Elon Musk shared the screenshot of Trump's post on Twitter and added Heart, Rocket and American flag emojis with the post. Incidentally, Musk had predicted billionaire entrepreneur, and his close friend, Jared Isaacman's return to NASA on the day he had public fall out with Sean Duffy.
is said to be close friend of Elon Musk.
Elon Musk vs Sean Duffy
What comes in Musk's favour is that Isaacman's appointment comes after weeks of online sniping from Elon Musk at Sean Duffy, who has been leading NASA in an interim capacity. What seems to have angered Musk is Duffy's comment that Elon Musk's SpaceX is lagging behind schedule. In an interview with CNBC, Duffy said that he believes SpaceX, which has a $2.9 billion contract to provide the lunar lander astronauts would ride to the Moon’s surface, is behind schedule, potentially hurting NASA’s efforts to return humans to the Moon before China.
“So, I’m going to open up the contract. I’m going to let other space companies compete with SpaceX,” he said.Following these statements, Musk lashed out at Duffy in a series of posts on Twitter. Musk called Duffy “Sean Dummy,” accused him of having a “2 digit IQ” and posted memes aimed at him. Musk even pinned a post making fun of Duffy on his Twitter profile. The post read: “Should someone whose biggest claim to fame is climbing trees be running America’s space program?”
NASA nominee drama: Yes, No and again Yes for Isaacman
It seems Jared Isaacman has been forgiven for his political donations.
On December 4, 2024, President Trump named Isaacman to serve as administrator of NASA. On April 9, Isaacman faced the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on April 9, 2025, where his nomination appeared to sail through the confirmation process. Senators voted to approve his nomination, sending it to the full Senate for a final vote.
On May 31, however, Trump suddenly pulled the nomination, citing Isaacman’s past contributions to Democratic candidates. “After a thorough review of prior associations, I am hereby withdrawing the nomination of Jared Isaacman to head NASA,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I will soon announce a new Nominee who will be Mission aligned, and put America First in Space. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added. Five months later, the tide has again turned in Isaacman's favour as he finally seems set to takeover as NASA administrator.
