The Prime Minister also prayed for Advani’s long life and good health, acknowledging his enduring commitment to public service and principled politics.

“His contributions have left an indelible mark on India’s democratic and cultural landscape. May he be blessed with good health and a long life," the PM added.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also greeted the veteran leader, stating on X, “Heartfelt birthday greetings to L. K. Advani ji. His distinguished leadership, vision and lifelong dedication to the nation continue to inspire us all. Prayers for his good health and long life."

Born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi (now in Pakistan), Advani began his public life by joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a swayamsevak in 1942. Over the decades, he became one of the central figures in Indian politics and was instrumental in shaping the rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Advani served as BJP president for three terms—1986–1990, 1993–1998, and 2004–2005—making him the party’s longest-serving chief. He also held key positions in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led government, serving as Home Minister (1999–2004) and Deputy Prime Minister (2002–2004).

In March 2025, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, on Advani in recognition of his decades-long service, visionary leadership, and unwavering commitment to strengthening India’s democratic and cultural fabric.
