Kimi Antonelli wins his first race at the Chinese Grand Prix, becoming the second-youngest F1 race winner. Overwhelmed with emotion, he cried post-race.

Star Italian Formula One driver Kimi Antonelli was left in tears after the teenager won his maiden race at the Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday, March 15. Overwhelmed with emotion, Antonelli could barely speak and broke down in tears of joy during the post-race interview after stepping out of his car.

Antonelli had already made history by becoming the youngest-ever Formula 1 pole sitter when he claimed pole position for the Chinese GP on Saturday, March 14.

Antonelli has now turned that pole position into his first-ever race win, becoming the second-youngest Formula 1 race winner, trailing only Max Verstappen. He also joins the latter as just the second teenager ever to claim an F1 win.

After stepping out of his car post-race, Antonelli was overwhelmed with emotion. During his post-race interview with David Coulthard, he struggled to speak and broke down in tears, describing the win as one of the biggest achievements of his life.

The start of the race proved challenging for Antonelli, as the Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc-driven Ferrari cars launched from the second row. Hamilton surged past Antonelli to take the lead, while the latter also pressured him through the opening corners.

Once Antonelli reclaimed the lead from Hamilton, he never looked back, pulling away at the front of the pack. He bagged a commanding win, crossing the finish line 5.5 seconds ahead of Russell in second place.

The 19-year-old Antonelli converted being the youngest pole-sitter in Formula One history into a win after both McLarens couldn’t start the Shanghai race.

Antonelli lost the lead at the start, but once he regained it, he dictated the pace and cruised to the chequered flag, finishing over five seconds ahead of Russell. Leclerc brought the second Ferrari home in fourth.
