“Emotions run high”: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen admits his move that invited a penalty at Spanish Grand Prix was not right

Max Verstappen could have very much been on the podium at the Spanish Grand Prix, at least in the third spot, had he not received a 10-second penalty for touching George Russell’s Mercedes amid his eagerness to reach the finish line.

The Red Bull driver has now shared a note on Instagram, acknowledging the mistake that he says “shouldn’t have happened.” His fans, however, have shown him full support and want him to move ahead.

Moments before the finish line, Max Verstappen’s Red Bull was seen raging ahead for the podium finish, but in the tussle to move ahead of the rest, he was seen intentionally touching George Russell’s Mercedes in Lap 64. As a result, Verstappen was handed a 10-second time penalty, which pushed him to the 10th position.Verstappen’s Instagram post comes as his license received an additional three penalty points, which brings him in close vicinity of a one-race ban if he commits just one more mistake on the track.

Sharing a picture of him in a helmet, Verstappen wrote, “We had an exciting strategy and good race in Barcelona, till the safety car came out. Our tyre choice to the end and some moves after the safety car restart fuelled my frustration, leading to a move that was not right and shouldn’t have happened.

I always give everything out there for the team and emotions can run high. You win some together, you lose some together. See you in Montreal.

”

Verstappen’s fans came out in full support in the comments section. Commenting on the post, a fan wrote, “We understand the frustrations and we support you.” Another said, “Just stay strong Max, very understandable why you got mad and I can't blame you. Now get back out there and do what you do best.”

One more wrote, “Topsport comes with emotions sometimes. Things can happen, on to the next race, you're the best of the best, no doubt on that on to the next race.
