Crisis or not, Chelsea have found a way to keep their season alive.
A 1-0 win over Leeds United at Wembley on Sunday booked their place in the FA Cup final, where they will face Manchester City next month.
The decisive moment came early. Enzo Fernandez rose between defenders to head home a cross from Pedro Neto in the 23rd minute, which proved enough in a tense semi-final.
Fernandez Responds Amid Off-Field Noise
The Argentine midfielder had recently been suspended by former boss Liam Rosenior and the club hierarchy after suggesting in a press interview that he was unhappy and open to a move to Spain.
That episode came during a miserable run of five straight Premier League defeats, with reports of dressing-room unrest and concerns over Rosenior’s inexperience after taking charge in January.
The pressure ultimately told. Chelsea’s owners, BlueCo, sacked Rosenior last week following a 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion. Assistant coach Calum McFarlane has since stepped in on an interim basis.
“It’s amazing. The boys reacted in the way they should have," Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez said. “We’ve tried to keep everyone positive in training, and it’s the chance to be in another final."
One Step From Silverware
Chelsea, eight-time FA Cup winners, now have a shot at ending a turbulent campaign on a high. Standing in their way are Manchester City, who beat Southampton 2-1 to reach the final and remain in contention for a domestic treble.
