‘Mission Punarjani’, a campaign by the Ernakulam Rural police to fight drug menace, got under way at Perumbavoor on Wednesday.
The project aims at making Perumbavoor drug-free. Inaugurating the project at Allapra, Kunnathunadu MLA P.V. Sreenijin hailed the initiative of the police against drugs. District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) M. Hemalatha presided. Kochi Sub Collector K. Meera delivered the keynote address.
The campaign is being organised by bringing together migrant workers, employers, various departments, and social activists. It aims at preventing the circulation of drugs among migrant workers, extending medical and psychological support to drug addicts, organising awareness programmes, encouraging alternative lifestyles, conducting inspections in association with the authorities in other States, ensuring safe living conditions, and encouraging sports.
