SALEM: A lifetime pension has been granted to the mother of an ESI-covered employee who passed away while on duty.If an employee (insured person) covered by the ESI scheme dies as a result of an employment-related injury or occupational disease, the dependents’ benefit will be disbursed monthly at a rate of 90% of the monthly wage by ESIC to the dependents of the deceased insured person.Sankar Venkatachalam, who was employed at Hotel Sri Annapoorana in Salem, died on August 1, 2024, due to a cardiac arrest while on duty.Following the directives of S Sivaramakrishnan, joint director (In-charge) of SRO Salem, the disbursement order for the dependents benefit amounting to Rs 2,046 per month was presented to the mother of the deceased man on Thursday by ESIC manager A Jenova in the presence of the hotel proprietor Jay Bharath.
