Punjab Police have apprehended four individuals, including a former Delhi Police officer, in connection with a brazen daylight robbery at a jeweller’s shop in Dhakoli on July 11. The police recovered a substantial haul of stolen items, comprising 120 grams of gold, 500 grams of silver, and Rs 8 lakh in cash from the suspects. The arrested individuals have been identified as Delhi residents Amit Shukla, Vijay Kamal, Akash Sharma, and Ravinder Tyagi.
Zirakpur Superintendent of Police, Jaspinder Singh Gill, detailed the suspects’ criminal backgrounds and their sophisticated methods. Amit Shukla, identified as the main accused, is already implicated in two prior cases of robbery and criminal conspiracy.
The most shocking revelation pertains to Vijay Kamal, a former Delhi Police officer dismissed after his involvement in a kidnapping case. Kamal, who has a notorious history with eight registered cases of theft and robbery, is considered the mastermind behind several jewellery heists.
Investigations revealed that Kamal went to great lengths to avoid detection during the Dhakoli robbery. To disguise himself, he meticulously learned to tie a turban using YouTube tutorials, a detail underscoring his cunning. Police disclosed that Kamal’s criminal strategy involved a systematic reconnaissance process, where he tracked and observed jewellers for a period before carrying out the robbery. This premeditated approach allowed the gang to strike with precision.
