Ex-LIC engineer gets 4 years in 2011 Bhopal bribery case

BHOPAL: A special CBI court in Jabalpur sentenced former LIC assistant engineer Yogesh Arora to four years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 in a 14-year-old bribery case.The Central Bureau of Investigation registered the case in August 2011 after Arora allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from a contractor for clearing bills related to electrical maintenance in LIC offices. The contractor completed work worth Rs 93,000 and was awaiting payment of pending bills of Rs 35,000–40,000.Acting on the complaint, a CBI team laid a trap and caught Arora red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 as part of the bribe. The agency filed a chargesheet in January 2012.After a prolonged trial, the special judge on September 3, 2025, convicted Arora of corruption and awarded the sentence.
