 He treated me like family

Actress Harleen Kaur Rekhi is deeply emotional as she recalls her bond with the late Prem Sagar, the legendary writer-producer from the iconic Sagar family. Known for his humility, wisdom, and spiritual outlook, Prem Sagar left behind a legacy that continues to inspire generations.

For Harleen, being a part of his last project, Kaamdhenu Gaumata, has been nothing short of a divine blessing.“Prem Sagar sir was a divine soul, and I feel truly fortunate to have worked with him and shared such meaningful conversations,” Harleen says with reverence. “The way he showered his love and blessings on everyone was incredible. He treated me like a daughter and made me feel like part of his family. We all miss him dearly.”Harleen remembers her first meeting with him vividly. “When I met him in the office for the first time, while he was finalising me for Kaamdhenu Gaumata, I was so nervous. I kept thinking—how will I talk, how will I open up? But he made it all so easy. Within minutes, it felt like I had known him for years.”The project holds special significance for her. Written by Prem Sagar in 2014, Kaamdhenu Gaumata was finally made in 2024 and telecast in August 2025, shortly after his passing.

Harleen plays the lead role in what is now remembered as his last creation. “When sir passed away, all the memories came rushing back. I feel blessed that destiny chose me to be the lead of his final project,” she reflects.Prem Sagar’s guidance extended beyond professional advice. Harleen recalls how he often reminded her to stay aligned with Kapila, the divine cow central to the show. “He told me to be very friendly with her and surrender to Gaumata.

He even narrated stories from the Ramayan—about how they used to shoot and how magic unfolded on set. Those conversations were priceless.”For Harleen, the bond was deeply personal. “Be it having lunch or dinner with him, or simply asking questions, it always felt like I was with a father figure. I never once saw him scolding or shouting at anyone. His calm aura and loving nature touched everyone around him.”As Kaamdhenu Gaumata airs, Harleen treasures not just the role but the memories of working with a man she calls “a guiding light.” “I am grateful to God and to Prem Sagar sir for blessing me with this opportunity. His legacy will always live on in our hearts.”
