Exhibition showcasing Kerala’s achievements in urban development begins

An exhibition highlighting Kerala’s achievements in urban development began at Marine Drive here on Thursday. The event is held as part of the Kerala Urban Conclave that begins in the city on Friday.

Minister for Local Self Government M.B. Rajesh inaugurated the exhibition, which showcases Kerala’s progress in areas such as urban planning, solid and liquid waste management, recycling, and housing. Mayor M. Anilkumar and Greater Cochin Development Authority Chairman K. Chandran Pillai were present.

At the entrance, visitors are greeted by an installation of a mother and child made entirely from plastic waste, an artwork that had won the first prize at the procession held as part of Onam celebrations in Thiruvananthapuram, a release issued here said.

The exhibition features stalls and displays from a wide range of government departments and agencies, including the Suchitwa Mission, Aardram Mission, LIFE Mission, Information Kerala Mission, KILA, Kudumbashree, Supplyco, Spices Board, State Waste Management Cell, NREGS, SC Development department, and Goshree Islands Development Authority.

The special attractions include displays and sale of value-added products made from waste, as well as forest produce marketed by cooperative societies from Attappady and Vattalacki under the Scheduled Tribes Development department. Kerala’s six municipal corporations and several key municipalities are also showcasing their innovations in urban development and waste management.

Through LED screens, miniature models, and interactive set-ups, the exhibition brings alive Kerala’s success stories and new ideas in sustainable urban growth. A food court has also been set up for visitors.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until September 15 as part of the Kerala Urban Conclave.
