Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said the State government is reviewing the possible expansion of the runway at Jakkur Aerodrome and on ways to make full use of the land available there.

Speaking to reporters after a review meeting on the development of the Government Aviation Training School (GATS) and Jakkur Aerodrome, the Chief Minister said two proposals are currently under discussion. “Since a flyover has come up here, there is some hindrance. Earlier, it was not known that a flyover would come in this location,” he said.

The Jakkur Aviation Training School presently operates on over 200 acres. Mr. Siddaramaiah said, “The government is considering acquiring more than three acres of adjoining land to facilitate runway expansion. However, the landowners are not ready to part with their property and the cost has become expensive.”

The Chief Minister further said the government is looking into how the available land can be best utilised for public purposes. “As there is a court order that the training school must continue, the government is examining what further steps can be taken,” he added.
