Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh will host the inaugural Sun Rise Festival at Dong village in Anjaw district from December 29 to January 2, CM Pema Khandu said on Saturday.Set against the backdrop of India’s easternmost village, the five-day festival will showcase a blend of adventure, nature and cultural experiences, with visitors getting to witness the first sunrise of the New Year.“To boost tourism and create new opportunities for adventurers and nature lovers, I am delighted to announce that from this year onwards we will be hosting a five-day ‘Sun Rise Festival’ at Dong. Come, witness the first dawn of the New Year in the Land of the Rising Sun,” said Khandu, urging tourists to come and explore the natural beauty of the state.The festival aims to provide a thrust to the eco-tourism sector, while creating livelihood opportunities for local communities, officials said.Located at 1,240 metres above sea level, Dong sits at the tri-junction of India, Tibet and Myanmar. The village came into prominence in 1999, when the Indian Science Congress identified it as the first point in the country to receive sunlight.
