State-linked Fars News Agency reported that multiple explosions were heard in Bandar Abbas, Iran’s main southern port city located along one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes.

The IRGC-affiliated outlet said similar explosion-like sounds were also reported near the coastal towns of Sirik and Jask, both strategically positioned along the Gulf of Oman and close to the Strait of Hormuz.

Residents in Bandar Abbas reportedly heard several blasts within minutes, triggering concern across the southern coastal region. However, Iranian authorities have not yet issued an official explanation regarding the source or nature of the explosions.

Bandar Abbas holds major strategic significance for Iran as it sits near the Strait of Hormuz — the narrow waterway through which a significant portion of the world’s oil shipments pass.
