Sri Siddarameshwara Eye Hospital here is offering Implantable Phakic Contact Lenses (IPCLs) surgery said to be an advanced vision correction procedure designed for those who cannot undergo LASIK surgery due to high prescriptions or corneal limitations.
Chairperson of the hospital Rajashree Reddy and Vitreo Retina Surgeon Siddaling Reddy, addressing presspersons on Sunday, explained the benefits of IPCL surgery stating that unlike laser-based surgeries, IPCL involves implanting a customized, biocompatible lens inside the eye, providing clear vision without permanently altering the cornea.
Dr. Siddaling Reddy making a power point presentation said that IPCL surgery is suitable for individuals with high myopia (severe nearsightedness) with prescription over -6 diopters (-6D) or high hyperopia (up to + 10 D) and patients with thin cornea and whose spectacle power is stable for more than a year.
Highlighting the advantages of IPCL surgery, the ophthalmologist said that IPCL surgery can correct high, near and far sightedness better than LASIK or glasses. It helps improve vision, particularly night vision, to be sharp and more precise. The IPCL can also be replaced.
The surgeon added that it takes just 10-20 minutes for performing IPCL surgery, in which an IPCL is inserted through an incision and placed behind the iris and in front of the natural lens.
Replying to a query, Dr. Siddaling Reddy said that the estimated price for IPCL surgery in metro cities is between ₹80,000 and ₹1 lakh per eye, whereas Sri Siddarameshwara Eye Hospital charges ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 per eye.
