Factory blaze kills 47-year-old woman, injures two in Jaipur

Fire at a factory in Jaipur’s Mahesh Nagar

Jaipur: A 47-year-old woman was killed and two others were seriously injured Wednesday evening after a fire broke out inside an electric equipment manufacturing unit in the Mahesh Nagar police station area, police said.Police identified the victim as Goma Devi, a native of Uttar Pradesh who was working at the factory. Two other workers, Abhishek and Manoj, sustained injuries in the incident and are undergoing treatment, with their condition stated to be serious.Station House Officer Suresh Yadav said the unit was a small-scale facility manufacturing concealed electric boxes used in false ceilings. According to police, the furnace inside the factory was operational in the evening when it allegedly sparked the fire, which quickly spread and engulfed the entire premises.Thick plumes of smoke billowed from the unit, prompting local residents to alert the police and the fire brigade. Fire tenders rushed to the spot and launched an evacuation operation, rescuing the two injured workers from inside the burning unit.The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors are monitoring their condition. The blaze was later brought under control after sustained efforts by firefighters.

Police said they will question the factory owners and coordinate with the fire department to determine whether mandatory fire safety norms were being followed at the unit. Officials added that the exact cause of the fire will be established after a detailed inspection of the site.Further investigation is under way.
