The family of a woman, Shivapriya, 26, who died after being discharged from the SAT hospital post-delivery, has accused doctors of medical negligence.

Shivapriya had delivered a boy at the SAT hospital on October 22. The hospital authorities discharged her on October 25. On October 26, Shivapriya developed severe diarrhoea and fever, and her relatives rushed her to the Medical College Hospital (MCH).

Ms. Shivapriya was put on life support. Still, her condition worsened and she died later.

MCH superintendent Bindu denied the accusation of medical negligence. She told reporters that Shivapriya had not contracted any infection at the hospital.

Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan and AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal said Shivapriya’s death shed light on the woeful state of public-funded hospitals in the State.
