Probe into Delhi’s Red Fort blast has so far revealed a chilling picture of a radicalised network that allegedly planned large-scale attacks across India.

Investigators told CNN-News18, which has accessed exclusive probe details, that the core members, including two lady doctors from Srinagar and Anantnag, were indoctrinated under the influence of Maulvi Irfan, a cleric who is believed to have radicalised them during his hospital tenure in Kashmir.

According to top sources, Maulvi Irfan introduced the group to extremist ideologies, including the concept of ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’, while spreading anti-Hindu sentiments. The radicalised members were then motivated to create “open sleeper cells" across India, recruiting more associates and expanding their operational footprint.

Officials confirm that the individuals arrested so far form the core group, which had begun systematic planning for potential strikes. “They were clear that attacking at random would not serve their purpose. They understood that Delhi was the seat of power, and their long-term goal revolved around targeting strategic locations," said a source.

A major focus of the probe is the Brezza car linked to one of the arrested lady doctors. Investigators suspect that the vehicle may contain explosive materials, and multiple teams have been deployed to trace it. The doctor, arrested on Tuesday, reportedly maintained a second Brezza which has not yet been recovered.

Meanwhile, intelligence agencies have confirmed that two key accused, Adil and Muzzamil, travelled to Turkey earlier this year, where they allegedly met their handler. Agencies have learnt that the handler arranged their stay and movements within Turkey, indicating an organised international support structure.

Digital forensic analysis has further strengthened suspicions. Investigators have recovered over 400 encrypted chat exchanges between the two women doctors, where they discussed fund transfers, logistics, and possible safe houses. One of the doctors reportedly received multiple foreign remittances via digital wallets from Istanbul and Doha between 2023 and 2024, believed to be funding for their activities.

Both women had completed their MBBS degrees from Dhaka Medical College in Bangladesh and came into contact with Maulvi Irfan during their internship in Srinagar—a period that investigators now describe as the “turning point" in their radicalisation.

Sources say the network was highly organised, digitally skilled, and financially supported from abroad, pointing to a broader conspiracy still under investigation. Intelligence agencies are now examining the Turkey and Qatar links, as well as the source of funding for the group’s India operations.

As the search for the explosive-laden Brezza intensifies, authorities are also mapping digital trails, remittance records, and encrypted communication channels to identify more operatives in what they describe as a nascent but dangerous sleeper cell network.

Twelve people were killed and several injured when a “slow-moving" car exploded near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, just hours after over 2,900 kilograms of explosives and ammunition were recovered from the Al Falah University in Haryana’s Faridabad. The recovery had blown the lid off a sophisticated terror network involving doctors who were allegedly planning pan-India attacks.
