The protest against the Bidadi Township Project is set to gain further momentum as farmers from across the district prepare to undertake a bike rally to Bidadi under the banner of “Bairamangala Chalo” on Monday.

The rally has been called by the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and is expected to witness the participation of farmers from Tumakuru, Chickballapur, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Bengaluru South district, and other regions.

Melukote MLA Darshan Puttannaiah, from Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha, but has extended support to the Congress government in the State, told The Hindu that he has extended his support to the protest and will participate in the rally scheduled for Monday.

In addition, Samyukta Horata Karnataka held a meeting on June 16 and decided on the future course of action, modelling the protest on the Channarayapatna farmers’ agitation.

Yashavantha T., State General Secretary of the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS), told The Hindu that once the monsoon session begins, farmers’ groups will organise a “Vidhana Soudha Chalo” protest against the project.
