Father Of Survivor Denies IIM-Calcutta Hostel Rape Allegation: ‘She Fell From Car’

A woman alleged rape inside boys' hostel in IIM-Calcutta, but her father later denied the claim, saying she fell from a car.

After a woman alleged that she was raped by a student inside the boys’ hostel of the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta, her father on Saturday denied the allegation, claiming that she had fallen from a car.

Reports indicate that the accused was arrested based on an FIR lodged by the woman at Haridevpur Police Station. The incident took place inside college’s boys’ hostel on Friday.

“No such incident happened with my daughter. I received a call around 9:34 PM, but my daughter did not disclose her location at that time. Over the call, she said that she fell from a car and that she was unconscious," the survivor’s father said.

“I later on tracked her location, and it was found that she was at SSKM Hospital. The Haridevpur police rescued her after reaching the hospital," he added.

According to her complaint, the woman alleged that she was invited to the hostel under the guise of attending a counselling session.

She claimed that after consuming a drink offered by the accused — which she suspects was laced with drugs — she lost consciousness.

When she regained awareness, she alleged that she had been raped, PTI reported.

“The woman stated in the FIR that she was called to the hostel for a counselling session. She then became unconscious after consuming a drink laced with drugs at the hostel. The woman realised she had been raped after regaining consciousness," a police officer said.

She also alleged that the accused had threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone, the officer said.

The development came almost a fortnight after a 24-year-old student was allegedly gang-raped at a law college in Kolkata.

Three men and the security guard of the college were arrested in connection with the case, which triggered sharp reactions, and also came nearly a year after a similar crime at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
