Father-son duo drown in Dundigal Cheruvu after Ganesh idol immersion

A father and son duo accidentally drowned after Ganesh idol immersion at the Dundigal Cheruvu in Dundigal on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as D. Srinu, 30 and his son Janwesley, 7. They had gone for the immersion of the Ganesh idol which was installed in their area, said an officer from the Dundigal police.

“The victims went to the lake in an auto-rickshaw. Following the immersion, when they were trying to take the auto, the vehicle reportedly struck a boulder on the lake bed and slipped into the lake. Both father and son drowned along with it,” explained the officer.

Following a missing complaint from the family on Sunday morning, the police launched a search operation. First the auto was found in the lake, after which the bodies were traced. A case was booked and further investigation is underway.
