Ferozepur police seizes 9.4 kg heroin and drug money, one held

FEROZEPUR: Under the ongoing state-wide campaign “War against Drugs”, the Ferozepur Police achieved a major success by seizing 9.4 kilograms of heroin a canal bridge in Zira area.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested one accused identified as Harmesh Singh alias Ramesh (25), a resident of Basti Machhiain Zira while another accused, Ajay (28), is currently absconding. The police also recovered Rs. 2.10 lakh in drug money and a motorcycle (PB-67-D-9489) used in the smuggling operation. A case has been registered under sections 21 and 27A of the NDPS Act at City Zira police station.Giving details, Harmanbir Singh Gill, DIG, Ferozepur Range said the consignment was smuggled from across the Pakistan border, with close coordination between cross-border elements.

“We are investigating both backwards and forward links to dismantle the entire drug network,” he said adding that the recovery has potentially saved many young lives. No parent wants their child trapped in drugs. I urge all parents to stay emotionally and practically connected with their children and guide them wisely.The DIG also shared on date recoveries during the current year informing that 534 cases were registered and 686 accused were arrested. The drug recovery was 79.280 kg, opium 5.720 kg, poppy husk 592.350 kg, powder 25 g, tablets and capsules 21,977, besides the drug money recovery of Rs 78.45 lakh. In addition, Ferozepur police recovered 22 weapons, 9 magazines and 136 cartridges during this time.This major recovery reinforces the Punjab Police’s commitment to eradicating drugs, especially in sensitive border zones like Ferozepur.
