The Vidhana Soudha police have registered an FIR against the superintendent of a government polytechnic and his associate for allegedly misappropriating government funds worth ₹1.06 crore by forging the signature of the principal.
Based on the complaint by Ravishankar C.V., principal of the SJ government polytechnic, Bengaluru, the police have registered a case charging the accused, identified as Manjunatha N.S., the then first division assistant (FDA) of the college, and his associate Jayaram H., charging them under forgery and criminal breach of trust on Wednesday.
According to the complaint, Manjunatha, who was working as an FDA in the college and was incharge of the accounts section, allegedly forged the signature of the principal to transfer the government funds to Jayaram’s accounts through 19 cheques.
He was later promoted to superintendent and transferred to the Bengaluru South District, but returned to SJ government polytechnic on deputation.
The fraud came to light when Ravishankar went to the bank to transfer the ₹10 lakh to the head office as part of the institutional development plan fund, but the request was rejected due to insufficient funds.
Shocked, Ravishankar checked the bank statement to realise Manjunatha’s alleged involvement in the embezzlement. The matter was brought to the notice of the higher-ups before filing a complaint.
