An FIR has been lodged against actors Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and others at Rajasthan’s Bharatpur police station following a complaint by an aggrieved customer facing troubles with his Hyundai car.

The FIR has been lodged by advocate Kirti Singh, 50, who said that he purchased Hyundai’s Alcazar, 2022 model, for Rs 23,97,353 in 2022 from a dealership in Sonipat, Haryana, but that he has been facing issues ever since. The FIR at Bharatpur’s Mathura Gate police station has been lodged under sections for cheating, criminal breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy against Khan and Padukone too as they were “brand ambassadors”, Singh said.

He said that at the time of the purchase, the Hyundai car dealers in Sonipat told him to drive the car and that he won’t face any issues, and that if he does, they will be responsible.

“However, after a while, the car started developing technical faults. The main technical default is that if we accelerate while driving or want to overtake, the car starts vibrating but its speed doesn’t increase and the engine management system shows a malfunction. This has put the life of the complainant and his family in jeopardy several times,” Singh has said, as per the FIR.

He said that when he told this to the dealers concerned, they termed it a manufacturing defect by the Hyundai company and that this cannot be rectified at all. He said that they suggested a measure to partially address the issue temporarily, but that the issue kept repeating more and more frequently. He said that this has risked his life and that of his family, and that this is also causing an additional financial burden on him.

Singh said that when he told the dealership about it and asked them to resolve the issue or replace the car, they declined. Accusing them of cheating and conspiracy, Singh said that they already knew about the fault, but that they hid it from him. He said that the whole episode has left him with a heavy financial, physical and mental burden and that he is still paying the car loan, and hence the FIR.
