Fire breaks out at spinning mill in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A fire broke out at a spinning mill on the Vilankurichi Road at Thanneerpandal in Coimbatore city in the early hours of Monday. Raw materials and yarn worth several lakhs of rupees were gutted in the fire accident at Sai Jagannath Cotspin Pvt Ltd.

No casualty was reported. Fire and rescue services received a distress call around 1.40am, and three fire tenders from Peelamedu, Coimbatore South and Ganapathy fire stations were deployed. As many as 25 fire and rescue services personnel led by district fire officer P Pulukandi were engaged in the firefighting. The fire was completely extinguished by around 9am, after seven-hour-long struggle.Officials said the fire could have been caused by an electric short circuit. The Peelamedu police registered a case.
