First industrial salt consignment by freight train reaches Kashmir from Gujarat

Jammu: The first freight train carrying industrial salt from Gujarat arrived in Kashmir on Friday, a senior railway official said.The first ever freight to reach Kashmir was on Aug 9 this year, carrying cement from Punjab.Uchit Singhal, senior divisional commercial manager (SDCM) of Jammu division of Northern Railway, said the first 21-wagon rail consignment of 1,350 tonnes of industrial salt from Kharaghoda goods shed in Gujarat arrived at Anantnag goods shed on Oct 17.“This industrial salt is used in tanning, pulp soap and sometimes in brick kiln industries,” he said.Previous freight consignments in the Kashmir valley include apples transported by train to Delhi. “Similarly, Maruti vehicles and other goods have been transported to the Valley by train,” Singhal said.
