The first petrol bunk in the country run entirely by a women’s federation, in Narayanpet district, has become a shining example of financial independence and self-reliance, recording a profit of ₹13.82 lakh in the first six months of its operation.

The petrol bunk, located at Singaram X Roads, Narayanpet, was inaugurated on February 21, 2025, by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy under the Indira Mahila Shakti Policy, which seeks to empower one crore women across the State to become entrepreneurs.

In just six months of operation, the Narayanpet District Mahila Samakhya, which manages the bunk, has registered a profit of ₹13.82 lakh. The petrol bunk has quickly become a model of efficiency, selling 4,000 litres of petrol and 6,000 litres of diesel daily. Six women employed as sales staff earn ₹13,200 per month, while the manager, also from the SHG network, receives ₹18,000 per month, with salaries paid by the federation.

The federation consists of 8,196 self-help groups (SHGs) with 91,369 members. The project was set up with an investment of ₹1.3 crore, including ₹15 lakh for infrastructure, under a 20-year lease agreement with BPCL at ₹10,000 per month.

To ensure professional standards, seven senior women were trained as managers and saleswomen at Jadcherla and Shadnagar petrol bunks before taking charge of operations. As per the Chief Minister’s directions, the District Collector monitors the performance every 15 days, ensuring accountability and transparency.

Mahila Samakhya leaders said the success of the Narayanpet petrol bunk has inspired women in other districts to explore similar ventures. “This is more than just a business. It is proof that women can successfully manage large-scale enterprises,” they said.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy lauded the effort and revealed that his idea of this bunk was to prove the efficiency of women in whatever sector they work in, and also inject the entrepreneurial desire among women, and rural women in particular.
