The accident occured when a speeding car rammed into a truck on the Patna-Gaya road
Patna: Five people died after their speeding SUV rammed into a moving truck from behind in Parsa Bazaar police station area of Patna in the early hours of Thursday. The impact was so severe that the car got lodged in the sand-laden truck, which unknowingly dragged it for 25 metres on Patna-Gaya road.Patna sadar deputy superintendent of police (DSP)-II, Ranjan Kumar, who visited the spot, along with the Parsa Bazaar team, said when the truck driver realised that a car was stuck, he fled, leaving his vehicle.Police had to use equipment like a gas cutter to extricate the bodies from the wreckage. Deceased Rajesh Kumar (50), Sanjay Kumar (38) — both from New Patel Nagar — Kamal Kishore (38) from Sipara, Prakash Chourasiya (35) and Sunil Kumar (30) — both natives of Muzaffarpur — were travelling from Fatuha to Patna when the collision happened.The DSP said as per the information, the five men, who worked together in a fertiliser and pesticide-distribution company, had gone to Fatuha on a business trip. “The accident happened while the men were returning home in the SUV of Sanjay. When the police reached the spot, the airbags were all open, however, all occupants were dead. Initially, the police used a gas cutter, but due to fear of fire getting caught, we used other equipment to extricate the bodies.
With the help of the villagers, all the bodies were taken out and sent to Patna Medical College Hospital for postmortem,” he said, adding both the vehicles have been seized.“The victims were identified with the help of their mobile phones. Their families have been informed,” the DSP said.Ujjwal Kumar, nephew of deceased Sunil, said his uncle was the sales manager in the company. “Prakash was a sales officer, Kamal was an accountant and Sanjay was the regional manager of the company,” he said.
