The police on Saturday night nabbed a five-member gang for selling ganja in and around Chittoor, and seized 1.5 kg of ganja packets, along with four mobile phones.
Superintendent of Police (SP) V.N. Manikanta Chandolu said that acting on reliable information a special team led by II-Town Inspector D. Nettikantaiah conducted raids at the Kailasapuram burial ground under the corporation limits. The accused were apprehended red‑handed while trying to distribute ganja to the local clients.
The five accused were identified as C. Tulasi, R. Jonesh, V. Shiva, S. Nandakumar, and S. Harish, all hailing from Chittoor district. The five confessed to have sourced ganja from Raja alias Athoram Raja, believed to be a key supplier, who is at large. A special party has been formed to track him down.
The SP said that strict surveillance is being maintained to eradicate the menace of drugs in the district. He added that special teams were under constant patrol to conduct raids to tackle the menace.
