Five projects are set to be taken up under the Urban Rejuvenation and City Beautification Scheme in Thiruvananthapuram. The Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority (TRIDA) will oversee the implementation of the project with the Smart City Thiruvananthapuram Limited carrying out the construction work. The scheme, with an expenditure of ₹100 crore, was announced in the 2023-24 State Budget, with similar schemes for the other city Corporations of Kerala.

According to TRIDA chairperson K.C. Vikraman, the projects to be implemented using Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) funds are aimed at beautifying some of the major roads in the capital as well as carrying out infrastructural work in various institutions. Either sides of the Chacka-Shanghumukham Beach-Thiruvananthapuram Domestic Airport stretch as well as the LMS Church-Vellayambalam-Kowdiar-Peroorkada Road will be beautified with flowering plants, graffiti, installations and seating arrangements at various locations.

Inauguration of V.S. Achuthanandan Park

Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh will inaugurate the construction work of V.S. Achuthanandan Park at Palayam on Wednesday (October 22, 2025). The Thiruvananthapuram Development Authority will be overseeing the construction of the park which will be set up at a cost of ₹1.64 crore in an area of 1.2 acres.

Along the Chacka-Eenchakkal route, the area below the flyover will be beautified with a garden, LED lighting and various other amenities. At the Jawahar Balabhavan in the city, the ‘Playscape’ project will be implemented at a cost of ₹4.21 crore to revitalise an institution which is one of the popular summer activity centres for children in the city. In the first phase of the project, a water play area, sand play area, nature walk facility, knowledge vault and parking facilities will be added. In the second phase, a children’s theatre and library are part of some of the works which will be taken up.

The TRIDA will also be overseeing the construction of the V.S. Achuthanandan Park at Palayam, which will be set up at a cost of ₹1.64 crore in an area of 1.2 acres. Minister for Local Self-Governments M.B. Rajesh will inaugurate the construction work of the park on Wednesday (October 22, 2025). The Authority will also be implementing the rehabilitation project for the shopkeepers who had to be evicted as a part of the Vattiyurkavu Junction development project. An administrative sanction of ₹9.26 crore has been accorded to the project. The work will begin after the technical sanction is secured.
