The students on Saturday organised a flash mob at the Guntur Railway Station to raise awareness on the harmful effects of plastic, as part of the ongoing World Environment Campaign from May 22 to June 5.

Around 50 children danced to the eco-awareness song Tik Tik Plastic, appealing public to reduce plastic use, especially single-use items, and to switch to eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags.

The young participants included children from railway families and the local community. Guntur Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Sudeshna Sen said the children had earlier taken a pledge to stop using plastic and to encourage others around them to do the same. As part of the campaign, DRM Sen and railway staff handed out jute bags to passengers, promoting the message of sustainability.

“Carry your own water bottle. Say no to single-use plastic. And stop using plastic,” the DRM said. She noted that such efforts, even if small, can lead to meaningful change. The involvement of children, she added, shows that the younger generation is ready to take the lead in protecting the environment.
