The Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL) has issued a flood warning to people living on the downstream of the Kabini reservoir as the outflow from the dam is being stepped up.

The CNNL said that the current rate of inflow as on Friday was 18,000 cusecs but it was expected to increase in view of heavy rains in the catchment area of the river in the Wayanad region of Kerala. The outflow from the Kabini reservoir in H.D. Kote was increased to 5,000 cusecs, and the authorities said that this may further increase depending on the rate of inflow.

Hence, people living in the downstream of the dam along the river banks have been asked to take precautionary measures to safeguard their cattle and avoid venturing close to the river. The water level in the reservoir was 2,278.84 ft. against the full level of 2,284 ft. and the storage was 16.38 tmcft against the gross storage capacity of 19.52 tmcft at 6 p.m. on Friday.
