A month-long drive under the National Foot and Mouth Disease Control Programme (NFMDCP) to vaccinate animals will be launched in Yadgir on November 3.
This is the eighth round of the drive under which cows, buffalos and other animals are vaccinated twice a year to prevent possible Foot and Mouth Disease.
Under the NFMDCP, the Department of Animal Husbandry will carry out the drive to administer vaccine an identified 2.19 lakh animals in the district. And, 2.25 lakh vaccine bottles have been already supplied for taking the drive to the doorsteps of farmers and animal rearers.
Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar, who chaired a preparation meeting with the officials of the department concerned, directed them to vaccinate all identified animals across the district.
A majority of animal deaths has been attributed to Foot and Mouth Disease. Considering the seriousness of the dangerous disease, the Union government launched this programme in 2019 to administer the vaccine to animals twice a year.
“As many as 2.16 lakh identified animals in the district will get vaccination. And, 216 vaccinators have been appointed for the purpose,“ Deputy Director of Animal Husbandry Raju Deshmukh has said.
The vaccine will be administered to animals above the age of three months.
Meanwhile, it has been announced that a certificate of vaccination will be issued to those animals that are brought to the weekly fair/market compulsorily.
